Commercial freezer repair

Reach-in, chest, blast and display freezers: the units that fail overnight without anyone noticing and get discovered at open. Most of them are repairable well past the point owners assume.

What we service

Reach-in freezers from True, Traulsen, Turbo Air, Beverage-Air, Continental and Delfield. Chest and mortuary freezers. Blast chillers and shock freezers. Open and closed display freezers in grocery and convenience settings, including glass-door line-ups and their anti-sweat systems.

Typical failures

  • Warm at the top, cold at the bottom. Evaporator fan motor. Air has stopped circulating.
  • Compressor runs, no cooling. Refrigerant loss, or a start component that lets the compressor run without pumping.
  • Frost sheeting the interior. Door gasket, or a door being propped during service periods.
  • Glass doors fogging. Anti-sweat heater or controller failure. Cosmetic until the dripping condensate becomes a slip hazard.
  • Unit trips its breaker. Stop resetting it. That is usually a shorted compressor winding or a failing start capacitor, and repeated resets make it worse.

Repair or replace

Reach-ins have a rough economic breakpoint. Once a unit is past about twelve years and needs a compressor, the repair rarely pays back against a new unit's efficiency and warranty. Under that age, and for anything other than the compressor, repair almost always wins. We will quote both and tell you which one we would choose.

Questions we get asked

My reach-in is warm on top but frozen at the bottom.

That is the signature of a failed evaporator fan motor. The compressor is cooling the coil, but nothing is pushing that air through the cabinet. Common repair, and an inexpensive one.

The freezer keeps tripping the breaker. Can I keep resetting it?

No. Repeated resets on a shorted compressor can damage the circuit and create a fire risk. Turn it off, move the product, and call.
